The UConn men are still in Florida an still chasing victories. Tuesday night, at least on paper, shouldn’t be much of a challenge as the South Florida Bulls are struggling this season. But it seems that USF rises to the occasion when it faces the Huskies.

Details

When: 7 p.m.

Where: Sun Dome, Tampa, Fla.

TV, Radio: ESPN2, WTIC-AM (1080)

Records: UConn 7-5, 0-1 American Athletic Conference; USF 7-8, 1-1

Series: UConn leads, 12-2

Analysis

  • Here is Ed Daigneault’s view of this game, directly from poolside:

Worth noting

  • UConn guard Ryan Boatright (thigh) did not practice Sunday but did practice Monday and will be in the starting lineup again tonight
  • South Florida returns just three players from last year’s team under first-year coach Orlando Antigua
  • Antigua has plenty of experience against UConn. He played at Pittsburgh from 1991-95, was an assistant at Pittsburgh for Jamie Dixon and encountered the Huskies as an assistant coach with John Calipari at Memphis and Kentucky
  • USF point guard Anthony Collins will play against the Huskies for the first time in two years. Easily the Bulls’ best player, he missed most of last season with an injury
  • Antigua is one of just two Hispanic head coaches in Division I. South Carolina’s Frank Martin is the other
  • UConn has five players averaging five or more rebounds this year. It had just two (Shabazz Napier and DeAndre Daniels) last season
  • The Huskies are 6-0 when they hit six or more 3-pointers in a game
  • UConn has held three of its last five opponents to 38 percent or worse shooting
  • Seven of the last eight games between the two teams have been decided by seven or fewer points. The lone exception was an 83-40 UConn victory at home last year. Exactly two weeks later, the Huskies won at the Sun Dome by five points.
