Yale’s Jack Montague (4) shoots a game winning three-point shot while being guarded by Connecticut’s Sam Cassell Jr.
Before falling to Jack Montague and the Yale Bulldogs Friday night, UConn had enjoyed a tremendous streak against in-state opponents.
The Huskies had won 68 straight games against the other D-I teams, with the last loss coming on Dec. 29, 1986 at the Civic Center to Hartford, 49-48. That was Jim Calhoun’s first season and was the second loss that month to a state school (remember that Yale also beat the Huskies in Dec., 1986).
Since that loss to Hartford, and before Friday night’s loss to Yale, this is the breakdown for UConn vs. state colleges:
- CCSU: 9-0
- Fairfield: 17-0
- Hartford: 13-0
- Quinnipiac: 10-0
- Sacred Heart: 5-0
- SCSU: 1-0
- Yale: 13-0
The Huskies host CCSU on Dec. 28 at the XL Center.
Well that was pretty wild!
